Senior Arin McMullen creates a play during the Valley Center game. The team’s current record is 9-4. The Railers continue to work in practice to get better for the end of the season tournament.

The girls basketball team will be going into the game against Derby tonight with a 9-4 record. Sophomore Kendra Scott has a positive attitude about the game.

“It should be an easy win for us,” Scott said.

Scott also said she feels good about how well this season has gone.

“I think this season is going pretty well. We have improved as a team so far. We’ve had some tough competitions and we’ve competed well against them,” Scott said. “It was pretty amazing when we beat Salina South in the Newton Invitational.”

Coach Randy Jordan said he agrees the team is doing well and believes it is because of hard work on and off the court.

“I’m very proud of the team because they care about each other and they enjoy being around each other. They work hard in practice because they want to get better,” Jordan said. “These kinds of things are more important to me than wins and losses. ”

Scott said she wants the team to continue to improve and have fun throughout the season.

“Basketball is all about having a good time,” Scott said. “I hope we can continue to have fun and keep working hard so we can do well in the state tournament.”

Jordan said the girls are already looking to contribute to offensive aspects of games and playing hard on defense, but they need to continue improving this season.

“The team needs to get more consistent with its intensity level in games. We need to play hard from start to finish every time we step on the floor,” Jordan said.

Scott said throughout the remainder of the season the girls will continue to improve.

“I feel like we’ll keep improving and get closer as a team and just have a good time,” Scott said.
